If you’re like us, you’re probably sat on your phone wondering how the hell it’s April. Time might be moving at the speed of light but it’s important to remember to take a second to stop and have a little fun, which is why we got in touch with DesignMyNight. They have an impressive list of ways to spend the month, including swapping Easter eggs for chocolate cocktails, pyjama parties with bottomless cocktails and drinking free bubbles at a cool rooftop bar in Camden.
To those who have given up something for Lent, firstly – well done. Secondly, it’s not long until you can stuff your face with whatever it is you’ve actually given up, so hold on in there. If you’re growing bored of rewarding yourself with the usual Cadbury Easter egg, we have an alternative you’re going to love. The Chocolate Cocktail Club has pulled the rabbit out of the hat with several new drinks and they all get the Willy Wonka stamp of approval. There’s a Mini Egg martini, a hot cross bun concoction and one made with Malteseers that’s lush.
Why lounge in your pjs at home when you can *actually* go out in them? Kave is a new restaurant and it’s set to make your Sundays in London a lot more fun thanks to their pillow talk brunch series. Pyjamas are obviously compulsory so make sure you’re leaving the house in your Sunday best. Tickets include bottomless prosecco or cocktails and a two-course brunch where you can order brunch classics like Shakshuka, Mexican benedict, alongside Nutella doughnuts and French-style toast for dessert.
Calling all foodies. Marylebone is having a giant festival from the 25th to the 30th April where the area’s coolest restaurants, bars and cafes will host special events and menus. Take our word for it: it’s not to be missed. Daisy Green is running a bottomless Champagne brunch, there’s a sparkling afternoon tea in The Zetter Townhouse (one of London’s prettiest hotels) and mezcal tastings in a top secret bar plus lots more. For those looking to spend a little more time in this influential area, this is the excuse you’ve been looking for.
Cool bars? We know a few. Okay, we know a lot – we are DesignMyNight after all – but if you’re looking for a bar that’s new on the scene, we recommend hitting up Lucy Wong. It’s inspired by the 1957 novel ‘The World of Suzie Wong’ and it’s very pink inside. Expect Cantonese cuisine centering around steaming baskets of dim sum and crispy pork belly alongside classic and signature cocktails. If you’re a night owl, you’re also in luck cause this slinky joint stays open until 3am every damn weekend.
You’ll find just about anything in London. Corgi parties, BYOB prison-themed bars, swimming pools filled with Aperol – the list goes on. There’s another concept we’re adding to this long list and it’s called Naked Soho. It’s the capital’s first sex-themed restaurant and as you can imagine, it’s caused quite the stir. They have walls decorated with willies and vulvas and a menu where the mains are called ‘the climax’. Drinks are just as punny so it’s definitely worth pursuing the menu before you book.
If your extensive knowledge of wine is that it’s made from grapes, you’re not alone. There’s plenty more to your bottles of sauvignon than meets the eye and you can learn it all at Vagabonds’ cheese and wine masterclasses in Battersea. You’ll get to try five wines sourced by the team’s inhouse wine experts and they’ll be perfectly matched with five knock-out cheeses. For only £35 a pop, it’s the perfect solution to a fun and affordable date night.
The team behind Chiltern Firehouse are opening a new restaurant called Midland Grand Dining Room this April and we’re certain it’s going to end up being one of the hottest spots in King’s Cross. In fact, we’d bet our Cadbury Easter egg on it. There’s going to be a focus on pan-French dishes and the space will be a throwback to timeless, old school glamour. There’s set to be a cocktail bar and a chef’s table downstairs for more intimate catch-ups, too. If you’re planning a birthday soon, bookmark this place.
What’s better than prosecco? Free prosecco, of course. The Lucky Club is reopening the doors to its breezy rooftop this April and they’re giving away complimentary booze to the first 100 who book in for Easter weekend. They also have a non-stop happy hour across the four days and every Tuesday they’ll be handing out tacos for £2.50 a pop. We’ve got our eyes on the bites that come with battered halloumi and their eight-strong margarita list. When the weather heats up though, we’ll be going straight in for their frozen cocktails.
In our books, all manner of carbs are elite but because it’s not socially acceptable to put clotted cream on toast, we have a soft spot for scones. TH@51 Restaurant and Bar is located a short stroll from Buckingham Palace and they just launched a Jasmine Indian afternoon tea. Forget about raisins as they pop saffron and elaichi scones on your plates alongside chocolate cups, khandvi chutney tarts and chamcham eclairs.
Know Oriole? Silly question, of course you do. This award-winning speakeasy is in the middle of finding a bigger home after closing its doors in December but they’re up to all sorts of tricks at Albie at The Hoxton. This three-month residency isn’t one to miss with signature sips, live jazz and swing sets and some terribly tasty bites. If you’re planning on staying a while to whet your whistle, sustain yourself with their shrimp tostadas and porn buns; you won’t regret it.
