It’s Stress Awareness Month this April and we wanted to bring you an article that was all about relaxing and relieving stress!
We all go through stressful phases in our lives, whether that’s with work, a relationship, home renovations or life just gets a little too intense. Therefore, we wanted to outline for you 5 simple and easy ways to relieve stress. You can practice these on a daily or weekly basis, depending on your schedule, to help alleviate your levels of stress. Because there’s nothing better than feeling good, relaxed and stress-free…
Meditation has been around for centuries, and with the ever-rising interest shown in the last 10 years, it has become an increasingly popular way to reduce stress and calm your mind. Not only is it good for relaxation, but it also helps you eliminate streams of jumbled thoughts that may be contributing and causing stress. Practitioners recommend either 2x 20-minute sessions or a 45-minute session a day to really see results in a short space of time, but if you do have an extremely busy schedule 2x 10-minute meditation sessions a day can really start to boost your mood!
Who doesn’t love an enjoyable picturesque walk? Well, did you know that getting out into nature (whether that’s a daily walk or a weekly hike) can reduce stress levels drastically. Walking out in nature can not only reduce stress but it also helps with anxiety, anger, fear and blood pressure issues, as well as helping you get those daily steps in! A 20-minute walk every day or a nice long walk on a weekend can really help boost those serotonin levels.
Journaling may seem a little daunting sometimes, people assume that you need to be an incredible author to be able to journal, but that is not the case. Journaling is just the concept of writing your thoughts, feelings and emotions down on paper. This allows you to determine where those negative thoughts and stress are coming from and gives you a clearer perspective on how to approach those feelings. Journaling for 20 minutes a day helps to reduce stress and anxiety drastically and provides you with a form of escape where you can be completely honest about your thoughts.
Yoga is one of the most popular forms of exercise in the 21st century. It not only increases your flexibility and core, but it also encourages mental and physical relaxation. The breathing techniques along with the poses allow for your body to release tension around your muscles but also emotional tension. Practicing yoga 3 to 4 times a week for 30–45-minute sessions will alleviate the feeling of stress, anxiety and a foggy mind, as well as enhancing your mood significantly.
As adults in the technology era, we spend on average 6 hours a day on our phones and laptops (not counting work hours)! And with the increase in lifestyle, career and social expectations set by social media, it’s merely impossible to not stress about it all. Putting your phone down at least 1 hour before you go to bed every evening and not picking it up for 30 mins to an hour first thing in the morning can increase serotonin and reduce stress levels massively! (And no, I don’t mean ditch the phone and turn the TV on) – reducing your blue light exposure on a daily basis not only boosts your energy levels, but it reduces the pollution projected onto your skin and eyes, essentially giving your face a break from stress.
