The 3 Essentials You Need in Your Wardrobe for Spring

We never really need an excuse to shop, but if we can justify any new purchases by calling them wardrobe essentialswhat better reason to schedule in a seasonal clothing refresh!

The white shirt, the trench coat and the miniskirt – all classic pieces within their own right and all with the ability to be worn day or night, smart or casual.

The Oversized White Shirt

The most functional & effortless item you can have the pleasure of owning. If a classic white shirt isn’t part of your wardrobe all year round, it’s time to add one this Spring! Opting for a slightly oversized shirt for the maximum versatility, as this humble piece can form the foundation of many a fairer weather outfit.

Styling Notes:

  • Keep it casual for daily wear by leaving it loose and untucked over fit and flare jeans with fresh white trainers.
  • Leave a pretty bralette in any colour poking out between the buttons and add plenty of statement jewellery to finish the look.
  • For a work-approved fit, French tuck it in to tailored trousers and pair with heels.
  • Create a shirt dress by cinching in at the waist with a rope belt.

Luckily, this essential doesn’t cost the earth, so you can pick a shirt from just about anywhere and focus the majority of your budget on accessorising for the season – as just about anything goes!

The Trench Coat

Unfortunately, in the UK the Spring season isn’t always as reliably mild as we would like. The unpredictable weather usually calls for another layer or jacket, but often finding the perfectly appropriate Spring jacket is no easy task. Luckily this is where the trusty trench coat comes in, perfect for throwing over the shoulders on a breezy April evening, or as the finishing touch to any new season ensemble.

Styling Notes:

  • Pop it over the top of comfy loungewear style trousers to elevate a casual look, as well as thick ankle socks and the latest revival craze, a pair of chestnut brown ultra mini Uggs.
  • Keep yourself warm yet stylish when wearing a silky slip dress on date night and on-trend chunky boots.

Some pieces require a certain level of investment, and if you’re serious about a trench coat, this is one of them. It’s a great price to pay for a timeless coat that will see you through endless Spring seasons in the future.

The Mini Skirt

Super chic and super cute, the mini skirt is definitely here to stay this year after commanding the runways of SS22 shows and the overwhelming resurgence of 2000’s influenced fashion trends. Despite Paris Hilton’s rules of style, I’m not sure if I could strut around my town in a miniskirt the size of a belt – but I can definitely get on board with a woven cotton number, and if it’s part of a co-ord, even better!

Styling Notes:

  • For a daytime go-to look, pick out a bold, bright or muted cotton A-line skirt and compliment this with a pretty, neutral blouse for balance.
  • Depending on the weather, tie together with either sandals or croc effect boots.
  • Pair with a matching co-ord jacket for a polished outfit.
  • Ooze sex appeal with a simple satin mini skirt, structured bodysuit and stilettos.
  • Take it up a notch by letting a sparkly chain sit on your hips.
