Trend Alert: The Welded Bracelet

In the 1960s, a young man named Aldo Cipullo, came up with the design for a bracelet that symbolised the desire for a permanence in love after going through heart-break. The bracelet couldn’t be slipped on and off with ease like other pieces. Instead, this bangle had small screws and came with an accompanying screw driver, which was essentially, the only way you could remove it. While working at Tiffany & Co. Cipullo pitched his design (which he wore on his own wrist) to his bosses who rejected the idea. Then in 1969, Cipullo moved to Cartier and once again showed off his design. This time, with resounding success. The famous jewellery brand fell head over heels for the bracelet and turned it into the now iconic Cartier Love Bracelet. Over the last 5 decades, the Love Bracelet has been worn by celebrity lovers such as Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton and more recently, A-listers such as Kylie Jenner.

Today’s style of permanent bracelets can also be a lot more delicate and dainty in comparison to the Love Bracelet.
The welded bracelet works by soldering a gold chain with no open/close clasp to your wrist. It’s also important to note here that this isn’t something you can do at home on your own. This particular jewellery application requires professionally trained experts to safely attach the bracelet to your wrist. It is however completely pain free and has even become a great experience for loved ones to share with each other. Of course if you do ever need for it to be removed, the chain can be cut off.
