It’s always nice to have a weekend where you can lounge about and get down and dirty with your life admin but not putting on your glad rags across King Charles’ Coronation weekend would be a massive mistake. This historical event will go down in the books and thanks to DesignMyNight, we know exactly how to celebrate. Put your plans in motion and get ready for afternoon tea accompanied by an orchestra, bottomless Pimms on a beach and themed cocktails so good they deserve their own crown.
The sun has started to come out from behind the clouds and you’ve started to think about getting your legs out? British summertime isn’t far away but you might as well get into the swing of things a little early this year, especially as there’s £20 bottomless Pimms on offer at Neverland. For Charles’ big day this pop-up beach is throwing a big bash and you can go all out by booking one of their luxury pergolas. It’s an ideal base camp that you can return to inbetween games of beer pong and shuffleboard.
Is there anything more quintessentially British than a biscuit and a cup of tea? Probably not. Which makes the Biscuiteers Belgravia one of the best places to venture to across the bank holiday weekend. This super cute experience will see you icing nine royal-themed and already-made treats as you drink endless cups of tea as you get down to business. You’ll even get to take your masterpieces home with you afterwards – if you have enough self control on the journey back, that is.
Afternoon tea is synonymous with English culture so it’s only right that you celebrate the King’s Coronation with scones and waving your pinkies in the air. The Rubens at The Palace is as timeless as they come, with dainty china, a live pianist playing relaxing music and for the day in question they’ve come up with a themed afternoon tea that’s – you guessed it – fit for royalty. It’s also opposite the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace too, making it a hotspot for the Coronation celebrations.
Belting out your favourite tunes is a right of passage at any time of day but you need to save your singing voice in the lead up to the May bank holiday. Why? To celebrate a new monarch at Now That’s What I Call Brunch. 100 Wardour Street are hosting an iconic brunch in Soho where you can get your fix of British pop classics from the naughties right up until the present day. Three courses will set you back £35 and there’s a £25 bottomless bubbly add on if you want to add a pop of fizz to your big day out.
Royalist at heart with a love for all things afternoon tea? Then there’s no better place for you to celebrate the new King than at 116 Pall Mall. This extravagant venue is pulling out all the stops with a regal afternoon tea accompanied by a concert from the London Chamber Orchestra. When you’ve wiped away the last of your crumbs you can dance to some of the King’s favourite tunes that will be performed by none other than vocalist Aga Serugo-Lugo.
Forget about your weekly M&S shop and feast like a Winsdor across the May bank holiday by joining Benares for their ode to King Charles. This Michelin-star restaurant is serving a limited-edition Coronation chicken that will be carved by your tableside. If their previous limited edition dishes are anything to go by, you’re in for a real treat. The venue’s Executive Chef, Sameer Taneja, has also created a classic sweet and creamy sauce for the spatchcock baby chicken and it serves up to two people.
Daisy Green is one of the capital’s most loved Australian restaurant groups and their venues are serving a limited edition dessert for the Coronation weekend. It’s almost impossible to say which one we love the most but if you’re going to find yourself loitering near Buckingham Palace on the weekend in question, Timmy Green is just a short stroll away. Priced at £50 and serving up to 10 people, it’s a great way to get a sugar rush before heading back into the crowds.
For those who know it, you’ll agree that Dalloway Terrace’s interiors might as well be ripped from the pages of a fairytale. This foliage-filled haven is a sought after spot for brunch and afternoon tea but they have rolled out the red carpet for a new collection of cocktails that are inspired by the King’s passion for sustainability and British produce. Make your way to their alfresco space across the long weekend and get acquainted with drinks named after some of London’s most notable areas including Bloosmbury, Kensington and Marylebone.
When it comes to exceptional drinks, London is a merry go round of experiences and it’s very easy to miss out if you don’t know where to go. Nightjar – one of the world’s best bars – opened a second home near Carnaby Street and we’re not exaggerating when we say it’s not to be missed. Expect exceptional drinks and service in this secret basement bar and for the bank holiday weekend, some never seen before sips, all in the name of the King. Whatever you do, just don’t leave without ordering the English royal punch or the el rey.
If you want to be as extravagant with your celebration as King Charles across the bank holiday weekend, The London Cabaret Club are hosting an immersive cabaret experience and it’s going to be as action-packed as they come. Think storylines from all the greats including Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry III alongside some fantastic food and themed cocktails thrown in for some seriously good measure.
