[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][eltd_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”” background_color=””]A[/eltd_dropcaps]s lockdown continues to keep us on our toes with its ever-changing guidelines, some things have got to give and for many of us, it’s our running momentum that seems to have gotten a little lost along the way… But no fear; If you’re struggling to get back into the swing of things and needing a little motivation to get back lacing up those runner’s, then here are our top tips for getting back that spring in your step [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

1. Get yourself some swanky new gear!

First things first, let’s all do our bit in supporting the high-street and invest in some new running gear that will make you look good and feel even better. Finding some amazing new fitness pieces will have you itching to get back out there, even if the only opportunity is to show off to your neighbours (which is absolutely still a valid reason).

trusty pair of trainers are an absolute must (as well as a keyway to prevent injury) and they are bound to get you springing along your regular run routes looking like the next Paula Radcliffe (ambitions are always kept high guys). As an example, these Nike Pegasus Trail Trainers would be an excellent choice, equipped with a high spring foam midsole and a chunky but funky outsole, these babies will have you gliding.

Running doesn’t have to mean exercising without style, so why not invest in some cute matching sets or treat yourself to the incredible pair of booty sculpting leggings you’ve been eyeing up? Look good, feel good. Making that purchase is your first step back on track, so get shopping! [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

2. Find your running inspo – we all need a bit of motivation sometimes…

So, you’ve got the gear, but still feeling like you have no idea? Time to find some motivation to get going and believe me, there’s plenty out there – it’s just knowing where to find it. Here are a few touch points I find helpful for my own motivation that might just give you a good place to start…

Adrienne on the other hand is your onewoman motivation station. As host of her own podcast, Power Hour (also worth a listen!), master trainer on the Fiit app and now author of her own motivational read AS WELL AS an international TEDx speaker, there is no stopping this lady. Her energy is infectious, so give her a follow and give her podcast a listen – I can assure you that a part of you will, at the very least, be thinking about going for a run.

Finding inspiration close to home is equally as useful to seek out some motivation. Why not even suggest going out with a friend or family member? A little company could be just the thing you need to keep you accountable for the Sunday jog you’ve been putting off…  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

3. Make sure you have the tunes prepped and ready to blast…

So, we’ve got the gear and the motivation, but now we need to sustain itQue Spotify playlist to the stars. Music is, for most, an essential to get you through the miles and is something that is completely unique to everyone. The best advice would be to listen to the beats that make you feel at your happiest and make your run an opportunity to reconnect with your favourite sounds!

Whether it’s Today’s Top Hits or a Warehouse Party, as long as it gets you up that hill you stick with it. Creating your own playlist is also a great option and ensures you know you’ve got some tunes that will really encourage you when it feels like the best option is admitting defeat. Power through!   [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

4. If you’ve thought about it, you might as well be out there giving it a go

In the words of Kelly Holmes, if you’ve already thought about lacing up your trainers, you’ve committed, so get yourself out there! We’ve all woken up stiff and achy and even making a morning coffee seems like effortbut remember running – a lot of the time – is more a mental game than anything. 90% of the time once you’re out there, you will surprise yourself and by the end of the run, be feeling on top of the world.

Of course, there will be those days when your body really is telling you a big fat no and that’s absolutely okay. We are in this for the long run (no pun intended, I promise) and getting a sustainable fitness regime in place is all about listening to your body and knowing when enough is enough. Take your rest days as needed, but be aware of a CBA attitude taking over; Get your trainers laced up and I promise you, by the end of your run you will be mentally feeling amazing. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

5. Accept defeat (but don’t give up!)

Even after trying all of the above, there will be days where running is just not on the cards for you. Whether it be your body saying no or there not being enough hours in the day, not every run we plan for will happen. And that’s ok. There are many more days, weeks and months in the calendar for you to give it another go when its right for you. What’s most important is getting it done, and it being relevant to you and your lifestyle. The endorphins released even from that 5minute jog will guaranteed become infectious.  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]
