[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][eltd_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”” background_color=””]I[/eltd_dropcaps]’m sure we can all agree 2020 has been far from ordinary for absolutely everyone and understandably, a lot of people will assume Christmas is ‘cancelled’ this year. But I’m here to reassure you it’s notChristmas is what you make it, making most of what and who you have around you. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Stripping everything back to basics and having a traditional type of Christmas isn’t actually a bad idea. We can enjoy the true spirit of Christmas and what it’s all about. It’s common that over the festive period, people are rushed of their feet, are extremely overwhelmed and over-worked (this to me isn’t the spirit). It’s stressful time for most and is usually way more expensive than necessaryThere’s nothing wrong with the overspending if you’re happy and comfortable doing so, but there’s also boundaries that need to not be crossed because others ‘expect’ xyz from you during this time.

Here are some ways to enjoy the Christmas period without the usual ‘silly season’ vibes:

  1. If you have access to a car (or can even be the passenger) go for a drive around your closest city or the houses in your area to find those that go all out on the decorations. Play Christmas songs through the speaker and away you go. This is something I really enjoyed throughout my childhood and can’t wait to feel the same energy I did back then – this year.

  2. Make a movie schedule and create a list of your favourite festive filmswatching one every other day from the start of December. Create the ultimate cosy night in, wear your Christmassy PJ’s, get your hot drink and snacks ready and enjoy some festive films. You can make this more special by sitting with the family or even with friends (virtually if need be), so get ready to enjoy your favourite films together.

  3. Go on the hunt for the best hot chocolate, as not only is this a great way to support local cafes but it’s a great adventure to be had! Pick 4/5 café’s and try a different one each week. Google some of the best spots near you or even in a different town so you can get out and discover more. There’s nothing quite like wrapping up warm and indulging in a warm drink at this time of year.

  4. Get involved with charities during this time. There are so many food banks/kitchens that will be open looking for volunteers. You can also do collections and create parcels for other charities like women and baby refuges etc. I know things might be a little different this year but check your local charity and see if there’s anything you can do to help.

  5. Get creative, whether that’s in the kitchen doing some festive baking or getting your hands on some glitter to create some decorations. Getting creative with friends and family is fun, but you can really make it enjoyable with a bottle of wine and a tasty cheese board. Really get into the spirit of it and enjoy quality time creating memorable moments.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Christmas doesn’t need to be hustle and bustle in 2020. It doesn’t need to be over the top spending or even feeling stressed with the huge expectation to-do-list. Grab your nearest and dearest and enjoy the little moments, something that we’ve all learnt to appreciate more this year.

Let go of what you think this year should look like and be present and thankful for the way it is. Enjoy every second.  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]
