We present the Summer Trend Tick List; everything you could possibly need upon your return to socialising.
The summer season is rapidly approaching and thank goodness we’ve finally got an excuse to change out of our WFH loungewear ensembles and get back to doing things that we love – including glamming up for some balmy British evenings in the pub gardens.
With nowhere to go but the supermarket, our outfit choices have diminished greatly and there may even be a layer of dust firmly settled on your going out tops (!) If you’re in need of some warmer weather fashion inspiration, you have come to the right place as we present the Summer Trend Tick List; everything you could possibly need upon your return to socialising.
Consider swapping the age-old jeans and nice top combination in favour of the flowing and flattering smock dress. Sweet and elegant silhouettes are set to be on the return with designers predicting we will want to dress all the way up instead of our all too familiar habit of dressing down. The smock dress allows you to opt for comfort (our new best friend) but also incorporating fun, frills and sometimes flamboyant designs. We’re all craving an excuse to get dolled up, and not just above the waist only for a Zoom call. This summer will be full of optimism and joy, reflected in the trends we’ll see this season.
The practical yet super fashionable Birkenstock sandal has definitely cemented its place in our summer wardrobes. Once shunned in the fashion world, these buckled flats have been back in the rotation for a few years, and the expansion of colour ways suits all outfit combinations. Gucci has also reintroduced and reinvented the mule for Spring/Summer 2021, giving it a pastel plastic make over. Luckily though, like any good high street store, Bershka have got us covered with a dupe. An honourable mention to the 90s/00s style flatform, too.
An undoubted essential for not only the summer, but the whole pub garden look, the humble sunglasses. We’ve moved past the era where bigger was always better, and now you can find frames in all shapes and sizes. Opt for a pair of classic cat eyes for an effortlessly Parisian inspired look, or sport one of the newer styles. How about these?
Maybe it’s all this free time we’ve had dreaming about frolicking on a Greek island à la Donna Sheridan, but a big floppy straw hat should absolutely be on your summer tick list. Bucket hats have also seen a great deal of diversification recently, and you can pick one up in just about any textile – leather, canvas – and definitely some fun pastel shades.
Shoulder and baguette style bags, popularised as of late, are set to stay. Luckily if you haven’t picked one up yet, they’re available just about everywhere. In contrast to the super small handbag trends, the super oversized shopper has regained popularity, perfect for bundling all your beach gear in.
And finally, not forgetting the face mask. A wardrobe and handbag essential that will most likely stick around for a while, you can’t be without one when you’re on the move this summer. Luckily fashion has taken a hold of the newfound accessory, and you can read about it and shop our picks here.
