We’re giving you the lowdown on all things nails for this #NationalNailDay.
Given the circumstances over the past year, most of us have now probably become very accustomed to doing our nails at home. The multiple lockdowns have given our talons the rest they’ve all needed. But now that the nail salons are starting to open for the foreseeable future, we’re giving you the lowdown on all things nails for this #NationalNailDay.
The average cost of a manicure and pedicure in the UK is upwards of £60. In the grand scheme of things, this may not sound like a vast amount of money, but it can add up. At Cohorted, we love doing both – DIY and visiting the salon for that luxury experience; It all depends on how we feel…
Your nail shape is dependent on how long your current nails are and whether you want to add a little length with acrylics or tips. It also depends on the practicalities of your day-to-day life and if longer nails would get in the way of your everyday tasks. But the longer you have them, the more you’ll get used to them. These are some shapes to potentially try next:
Nail shapes are a great way to show off your personality or try something different. Not only that, but longer nails give you more room to get creative and experiment with nail art. One of the key trends for 2021 is minimalist nail art; Think art gallery but at your fingertips. All you will need is some complimentary or contrasting colours to get the look. Search ‘minimalist nail art’ on Pinterest for all the inspiration you need to get going.
There are pros and cons to both. Gel nails are typically ‘less damaging’, but they are more costly to upkeep. Acrylic nails are ‘typically’ cheaper, but can weaken your nail beds over time. However, if you do your research and go to a recommended salon, your nails can be healthy whether you opt for long acrylic nails or a standard gel finish. We like to do mix it up depending on the occasion; Some looks need length and some days we like short gel nails for practicality.
Nothing beats regular paint, you can change it as often as you please, get creative with nail art and find shades to brighten up or darken your claws. There are so many indie and mainstream brands out there with a shade just for you. We love classic brands like OPI, Essie and Nails Inc who have a plethora of shades and finishes whatever your mood! You’ll find that more brands are formulating their nail varnishes with beneficial ingredients for nail health.
We’ve saved the best until last, press on nails. These are a great option for those who want the look without the commitment. Also, without spending their time or money either. Press on nails are great for those of you with professions that do not allow you to wear nail polish. We love Kiss nails for affordable (and reusable) options.
