Be Sustainable This Easter With These Decorations

There’s nothing more fun than decorating your home during festive seasons, whether that’s Christmas, Halloween or Easter. However, we keep finding that year in and year out more plastic based, ready-made decorations are being bought, which end up going to waste at the end of the celebrations and harming the environment. This Easter, we want you to think more sustainably and decorate your home with eco-friendly decorations without losing their vibrancy.

Egg Carton Chicks and Bunnies & Toilet Paper Roll Bunnies

This is perfect way to keep the children entertained during Easter whilst also allowing them to be creative! Grab some empty egg cartons (cut them into pieces so that they can be decorated) and toilet rolls and let the kids do their magic!

Candles in Eggshell

There’s no doubt that a few eggs don’t end up making the cut when you drain them to decorate them… so instead of chucking them out, use them to create unique centerpieces for your table! … Grab any left-over wax (old candles usually do the trick), melt it and pour it into the broken egg shells. All you need is to add a wick and voila – Easter in an Eggshell!

Yarn Easter eggs

There’s nothing more polluting than plastic decorations, that’s why this option is not only environmentally friendly but is also a fun way to get creative with your children this Easter. Yarn Easter eggs are not only nicer than the store-bought ones, they truly last the test of time. All you need is a balloon shaped like an egg, some yarn and some glue. Dip the yarn in the glue and wrap it around the balloon to create a cage like pattern, let it dry and you have some unique home-made Easter eggs.

Wooden Centre Pieces

Make a fun and different type of center piece with any sort of left-over wood that you have lying around! Whether that’s popsicle sticks, leftover pieces of fire log or sticks from your back yard, any type works! Grab an old vase or jar and a glue gun and start gluing the sticks one after the other around it (but not to it!). Once It’s dry, remove the vase and fill it with flowers or whatever you like! The perfect rustic Easter centerpiece

DIY Chocolate Eggs

It is estimated that over 3000 tones of chocolate Easter egg packaging is generated every year in the UK alone. So instead of buying hundreds of chocolate eggs which are likely to cause more harm than good… why not make your own? All you need is a silicone mould (you can get these just about anywhere) and some of your preferred melted chocolate. You can also fill them with whatever you’d like! The perfect sustainable Easter treats!

Natural Easter Egg Dye

Decorating Easter eggs is a tradition that has been around for decades, however, the store-bought decorating kits can be extremely harmful to the environment. So instead of counting on harmful dyes, why not make your own natural dyes from stuff that you can find at home! You can use things such as beetroot, turmeric, onion skins and red cabbages.

Give Up Single-Use Plastic

We all know it’s a lot easier to clean up after a big easter meal if we use plastic utensils and paper plates, however, this is not always the best thing to do for the environment. Instead of spending more money on more plastic, try to use the plates and utensils you already have! And for the kids perhaps reusable plastic (the solid one) plates – it may take a little extra cleaning but will save the planet from the little extra harm.

Repurpose Plastic Eggs

If you already have a basket full of old Easter decorations, instead of throwing them away, just repurpose them! Give them a fresh coat of paint, grab a glue gun and create a fun Easter egg wreath.
