Fake tan Friday is around the corner and the facial tanning products have come a long way in the past few years. The days of dodgy tanning wipes and breakouts from your tanning mousse have long gone. We have pulled together our faves across three price points to make sure you’re feeling fresh and glowy all year round no matter what your bank balance may be.
Cocoa Brown – Miracle Tanning Water - £13.99
Cocoa Brown’s Miracle Tanning Mist is the perfect gateway into facial tanning products. The cheaper price point allows you to see if a product similar to this works with your skin type and skincare regime and if you’re on a budget, it is still a great tanning mist. The fresh and refreshing formula dries after seconds so doesn’t leave you feeling sticky, it develops in just 3-4 hours too so can be left on for a little while or overnight.
Tannings sprays tend to work better on clean and dry skin. This means that if you have an extensive skincare regimen with lots of oil and cream-based products, you may find that the formula doesn’t stick to your skin as well. To avoid this, try a simpler skincare routine pre-tan or use a different style of product like the Isle of Paradise drops below that can be mixed into moisturiser or night cream.
Isle of Paradise – Self Tanning Drops - £21.95
These self-tanning drops by Isle of Paradise bridge the gap between tan and skincare. Mix a few drops of this into your moisturiser for a customisable sun kissed look. Isle of Paradise recommends using between 1 and 12 drops in with your moisturiser to achieve the best results. This allows you to achieve natural looking results tailored to your preferences.
Tanning drops like this can be applied either with your hands or with a face brush. If you are using your fingers/hands to apply, make sure to wash your hands afterwards! Hands and palms take to tanning products much better than the rest of the body so to avoid unnatural looking, orange palms – always wash your hands!

The By Terry tanning ‘Tea’ is definitely a splurge item. Unlike the other two formulas, the tanning tea is (you guessed it!) tea coloured which gives your skin a beautiful, instant sun kissed glow. The gradual tan effect and warm brown shade are meant to replicate the freshly suntanned skin and be your holiday in a bottle. The formula is made up of luxurious fruit waters and amber prisms which give your skin a subtle sheen, apply with a dense brush around the perimeter of the face for a subtle bronze or all over for a more intense glow.
Despite a slightly higher price tag, this seems to be a must have in your makeup bag this holiday season for an instant glow and a beautiful gradual tan.
