Below, Lisa Forde details her top 4 tips on creating a positive workplace that is productive, motivated and happy.
A positive workplace can bring great advantages to any business. When a close-knit team works together, it’s not just the employees who benefit. Business leaders can also expect to see a rise in productivity, better employee retention rates, and a boost in overall motivation. Clearly, it’s worth the investment!

Friendship
Even though friendships aren’t something you can just manufacture, your workplace culture can promote better bonds between employees. Fun team-building exercises are an excellent start, and you can build on this foundation with office events. For instance, here at Dotty about Paper, we have two yearly meals to celebrate the start of Summer and the Christmas season. We also use National Days and other special occasions to have small parties! These events also provide a great opportunity for social media shots.
If you are a business leader or a manager, you can also help foster strong relationships through your interactions with the team. Keeping an open-door policy is a good way to show how much you value others; simply invite employees to approach you at any time with their issues, questions, or concerns. Assure them that you will offer an unbiased place for them to speak their mind and that you will offer tailored support to help with their needs.

Teamwork
When your team works well together, you’ll create a friendly environment that people will love to join. You can create this bond by encouraging everyone to share their skills and talents. This will prevent a competitive spirit from growing and help people to work together, using their knowledge to the very best.
You can also promote strong teamwork by giving everyone in the workplace equal time and opportunity to express their thoughts. It’s so important that everyone’s voice is respected. Not only could you open up to a new way of thinking, but you could also uncover some amazing new ideas!
Finally, a good team can make any workload so much easier to bear. Even challenging jobs can be tackled when people understand each other’s strengths and share the burden in an optimised manner. By learning where others excel, you can correctly assign tasks to build both efficiency and mutual respect.

Motivation
Staying motivated is a sure-fire way to keep the workplace atmosphere positive. You can keep everyone motivated by rewarding hard work and creative solutions. This will encourage the team to continue breaking boundaries and feeling determined despite challenges. Remember, you don’t need an ‘exceptional’ reason to thank your team. Celebrate all the small successes as well as the big ones! A happy workplace is one where everyone feels valued for the work they put in every day.
Marking the big milestones that your business achieves will also help. Celebrating the completion of a major project or the company anniversary will remind everyone of how far you’ve come as a team. This gives a much-needed boost going forward and will provide affirmation that you can succeed despite any obstacles. An excellent way to keep confidence high and anxiety low!

Positivity
We all have a part to play in making the workplace positive. If you are feeling happy, that joy can be infectious! To make sure your own attitude is good, you can use selfcare methods in your everyday life to beat stress and boost your mood. For instance, you could call a loved one or enjoy your favourite treat during your break. If your day is improved, you’ll be in a better position to make someone else’s day better, too!
