Foods to Trans- form Your Nails

Who doesn’t want strong, smooth, unbreakable nails? With the right diet, and the right sources of nutrients, everybody can reach their ultimate goals. Unfortunately, it does mean the acrylics have got to go.

Your nails deal with a lot of drama, and it’s no wonder that they break as soon as you get them to the perfect length..

Regardless of the luxurious products and regular manicures, one major factor could in fact be causing all your nail problems – your diet.

Luckily, we’ve researched the top five foods you need for stronger, healthier nails, to say bye-bye to broken tips.

Nuts

Unlike some discussions around the diet, this is one that truly celebrates the importance of fat in our diet (the healthy ones, of course). Almonds are an amazing source of healthy fat, and a handful of almonds each day can provide you with a healthy dose of Vitamin E, a vitamin that is vital when it comes to maintaining healthy nails.

Vitamin E will help to protect cells from oxidative damage and one portion of almonds (23 almonds) contains 60% of your daily dose. So, sprinkle them on top of your cereal or dip them in chocolate – however you want to incorporate them into your diet is up to you!

Switch To Whole Grain

If you haven’t been persuaded already, it’s time to switch out the sliced white to a healthy whole grain loaf. Not only is it lower in saturated fat and sugar, but it’s much better for the heart, head, and nails! The seeds in whole grain bread are an excellent source of zinc, and are an easy way to incorporate those healthy vitamins into your diet.

Not only that, but making this transition will also keep you fuller for longer, as whole grain contains more complex carbohydrate that processed white bread, and much more nutrition which will benefit your hair, skin and nails.

Eggs

Protein is essential to good nail health. Nails are made of a protein called Keratin, the same protein that makes up your hair. You need those amino acids found in eggs to create all of those protein based cells in our body, including our nails.

When we’re lacking protein our nails become ridged and discoloured, so try incorporating eggs into your diet. They are a high source of protein and you can have them any time of the day!

Avocados

As we mentioned before, healthy fats are essential for proper bodily functions and cell regeneration. A specific type of essential fatty acid called linoleic acid, which is found in oily fish, but also in many of the healthy oils such as olive oil, rapeseed oil, avocados and nuts. So, for any vegans out there, don’t scrimp on your healthy fats! There are options for everyone.

Avocados, almond milk, or olive oil are all things we can eat every day to improve our healthy fat intake.

Water!

But none of these factors will really help you more than the secret to inner and outer beauty – hydration! You should have eight glasses of water a day (which includes the water in your tea and coffee) to nourish and hydrate your body from the inside, which will have an ultimate effect on the outside. If you only take onboard one of these steps, make it this one. Your nails will thank you for it!
