You are regarded as a trailblazer in the sex toy industry, what inspired you to get started?
It was never really a why, but more like a why not. I think people rush into adulthood so fast – in the sense that everything quickly becomes so serious. We obsess about the destination and forget the journey, the pleasure on the way. We forget to play. That’s what sex toys can help us with. To get curious and playful again. It felt like a very instinctive need to create a space for fun and playfulness.
Can you give us a bit of background about ohhcean and what it stands for?
ohhcean is the love child of playfulness and the urge to think in new ways. It’s the desire to do things differently. The thing about ohhcean really is this; it’s a tribute to fun and playfulness and the possibility of making a change.
Why do you believe it is so important to create an eco-friendly, ethical brand?
Because it’s needed. We need to think in new ways. I know that this is just a small drop in the pond but I hope it will make waves and inspire other brands to think in new ways too. That would be a pinch-my-arm dream come true. It just made perfect sense to combine the playful with the eco-considerate.

What makes ohhcean different from other sex toy brands?
It’s the world’s first collection made with ocean-bound plastic. The difference is in the materials and the packaging. The products are a reinterpretation of the bestsellers from the past 15 years.
Aside from being eco-friendly, what are some other benefits to ohhcean’s range of sex toys?
It’s so simple to me. ohhcean is a brand where eco-consideration meets playfulness. That’s what it does so well, nothing more, nothing less.
What are you most proud of since creating ohhcean?
Knowing that we are part of putting playfulness on the map. In my ideal world there would be an 18th global goal, and it’d be “a playful sexlife for everyone”.
Can you explain the process in creating ohhcean products?
We are collaborating with #tide, one of the leading organisations within recycling and upcycling of ocean-bound plastic. For anyone who is new to using sex toys, what advice would you give?
Follow your intuition, choose the toys that you can relate to when you look at them. And start out gently, don’t force things. It’s a ‘learn to walk before you can run’ kind of process. Some people keep enjoying the slow strolls, some people want to train for marathons. Find the pace that suits you.
How do you know which vibrator will be right for you?
When it comes to discovering your playfulness, it’s all about simply starting out, taking that first step. It’s learning by doing. And essentially asking yourself ‘does it feel good?’.
What is the best way to sanitize and clean your sex toys?
Wash them with water and mild soap and sex toy cleaners every time you’ve used them.
