Seven Books Every Fashionista Needs to Read at Least Once in Their Lifetime

Two of my favourite things are books and fashion so it’s no surprise that I have a list of fashion related books waiting to be shared.

From fashion history to the latest IT girl this list has everything and everyone in the world of fashion you could want to read about!

So, whether you a fan of thrillers or prefer an easy coffee table read, there is something with your name written all over it.

How to Break Up with Fast Fashion

Author: Lauren Bravo

In 2029, freelance journalist, Lauren Bravo, set out on a yearlong fast fashion ban.

Her experience, tips and advice are all documented in her latest book ‘How to Break Up with Fast Fashion: A Guilt- Free Guide to Changing the Way You Shop- For Good.’

Summary: Within this book, Lauren, who has previously written for publications such as Grazia, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Refinery 29, advises readers on how they can refresh their mindset and change their attitudes towards shopping to become more sustainable.

This book is all about falling back in love with your wardrobe and ultimately changing your shopping habits for the better, without having to compromise style because as the book says: “Fashion belongs to everyone, but no outfit should cost the earth.”

A book full of inspirational women who have paved the way in the fashion world, 100 Women 100 Styles looks back on some of fashions most loved women and thanks those we have spent years looking up to.

Not only is this book a shining example of female empowerment but it’s a book you’ll never get tired of looking through and reading.

The New Girl

Author: Harriet Walker

Summary: Written by The Times fashion editor, Harriet Walker, The New Girl is a thrilling read that follows protagonist Margot Jones as she prepares for maternity leave from her glamorous job as fashion editor at glossy magazine Haute.

We see Margot struggle to determine what is real and what is paranoia in this gripping story that follows her just when her world starts to fall apart. Margot is asking herself if her oldest friendship can be restored and if her replacement Maggie is after more than just a temporary taste of her life.

Based off Harriet’s own experiences with both maternity leave and working in the fashion industry, you’ll really feel as if you yourself have worked at Haute.

I would however like to add a trigger warning here and say that this book does deal with themes of pregnancy and infant loss.

IT

Author: Alexa Chung

When it comes to fashion Alexa Chung is everywhere, model, designer, Tv presenter, writer and fashions biggest ‘it girl’ of the 2010’s (let’s be honest, we all wanted to be at some point back then).

Summary: A first first-hand look into the life of Alexa Chung, one of fashions biggest icons, this book puts us directly in her mind and talks us through all those who have influenced her and her sense of personal style.

The Dressmakers of Auschwitz: The True Story of the Women Who Sewed to Survive

If you don’t know who Grace Coddington is then get to know, her memoir coincidentally is a great place to start.
