Once again, Halloween is rolling around and I’m stuck without a costume to wear… I always kinda hated Halloween when I was a teenager, not really sure why! But now I’m in my 30s and living my best confident life with my husband… Why not embrace the 2022 autumnal energy and actually have a bit of fun this year?
So, my vibe this year is going to have to be Stranger Things, season 4. I’m not going to spoil anything major here, but I absolutely fell in love with Eddy Munson this season. Without further ado, I’m going to showcase a couple of ideas for your Stranger Things themed Halloween party… Demogorgons, beware!
If you want to keep it subtle, just pop on the iconic Hellfire Club tee. You can wear it as is, with a pair of skinny jeans (a la Mike), or with a funky short-sleeved vintage shirt over the top to go for more of a Dustin vibe.
If, on the other hand, you’re picking up the energy of Eddy Munson but you’ve been worried about having to spend a lot to get the iconic Eddy Munson look, never fear. You don’t have to go all out – just pick up a cheap black leather jacket, that Hellfire tee, and then attach some patches to the jacket – Etsy has a great selection, especially these.
Then you can keep it simple with plain black jeans, army boots and a blow-up guitar. A really easy way to channel your inner rock god.
And what Stranger Things party would be complete without an Eleven costume? I’m sticking with early season 4, because I really don’t want to shave my head and I’m guessing you don’t either! This should be quite easy – a big baggy tartan shirt layered over a floral undershirt and a navy v-neck top, and some jeans. I don’t have a fringe, so I’d probably get a clip in one – I’m not looking for a new haircut!
If you’re braver than I am, or better with wigs than me, you could always go for a more iconic look for El!
It’s the same floral undershirt that reminds me of the sort of thing my gran used to wear when I was younger, but apparently they’re quite popular and you could get one from Shein, Joe Browns or M&S.
And for the make up? There’s a handy kit being sold that helps you with the nosebleed and a temporary ‘011’ tattoo just to finish you off.
If you don’t fancy dressing up as a child this year, how about turning up as Joyce Byers, strong badass mother who isn’t taking any nonsense this season.
Once again, there’s a simple version and a more involved one. Joyce is mostly known for her flannel shirts and her hair, so if you have a red flannel shirt then you’re probably going to be able to pull off a subtle Joyce Byers look.
On the other hand, I think that this particular ‘fit of Joyce’s from season 4 would be absolutely incredible – and hilarious – at a Halloween event this year. It’s not too difficult to put together – once again, an oversized flannel shirt and a plain white top and blue jeans.
Green safety goggles are easier to get hold of than scuba goggles and would work just the same. In a similar vein, Joyce is sporting some rather fetching blue gloves here – I’d be tempted to go for gardening gloves, but any blue gloves would do (bonus if you can find cow print ones!)
The finishing touch on this would be that huge phone, however it turns out that those are really quite expensive to buy the real thing! Instead, I’d be tempted to go for an inflatable one off Amazon.
If, on the other hand, this all seems a little too laborious and home made for your Halloween plans, how about buying a ready-made Robin Buckley costume? It already comes with the whole outfit in one, and is definitely more recognisable as a character than some of the others I’d personally go for! (What can I say, I like flannel shirts)
