The Importance of UV Protection in Beauty Products

Anyone else hate the feeling of wearing sun cream on your face? To me, it clogs my pores and makes my skin look and feel greasy. That said, I’m super aware of the protection it brings my skin from harmful UV rays. As an alternative, I often turn to beauty products that contain protection. This National Sunscreen Day, I’ll be sharing the importance of UV protection in beauty products, as well as sharing what to look out for in beauty products.

What can UV do to my skin?

Most of us are aware that overexposure to UV rays can lead to sunburn, and in the worst cases, skin cancer. In addition to this, it can cause premature aging of the skin. This includes wrinkles and fine lines, leathery skin, sun spots and more.

Do I need UV protection in Winter?

Sun protection is important every day, not just in Summer. Even when it’s cloudy and raining, UV rays can still break through. Of course, they are much stronger in Summer, so it’s a good idea to combine sun cream with your beauty products at this time of year.

But isn't the sun good for you?

In some ways, sunlight is great for you. It helps the body produce more vitamin D, which is needed for normal bone function and health. Sitting in the sun can also increase serotonin levels, which is your happy hormone. This can give you more energy and keep you calm, positive and focused. The best bit? You can enjoy all these great benefits whilst still protecting your skin against UV.

Why is UV protection important in beauty products?

It’s fair to assume that most of us don’t wear sun cream every day, but I bet that most of us do wear a beauty product every day. From moisturiser or serum to a full face of makeup, many of us regularly apply products to our skin. Using a beauty product which has UV protection can keep your skin safe from the harmful effects of UV, while still fitting into your regular routine.

What should I look for in UV protective beauty products?

The main indicator of UV protection is SPF rating. Many beauty products nowadays have SPF 15 as a minimum, which can provide a basic level of protection. I recommend looking for 30 or higher, especially if you have sensitive or pale skin.

What are some good SPF beauty products?

I hope this helps you make positive decisions towards using more SPF in your beauty products. Remember, protecting and taking care of your skin is essential for your physical and mental health.
