Very fitting for bones or no-bones to go viral in October but no, this has nothing to do with Halloween. Instead it has everything to do with Noodles the Pug!
Rather than checking their daily horoscopes, the internet are instead rushing to TikTok for Noodle to predict the day ahead.
Adorable animal videos have always gained popularity online, from the Grumpy Cat to Doug the Pug, Noodles is the latest dog in the spotlight over on Tik Tok. The 13 year old Pug has warmed the hearts of over 2 million people on TikTok. Noodle’s owner, Jonathan Graziano’s, posts daily videos to their TikTok where he lifts Noodles up – if Noodles stays standing, it is a bones day; if Noodles flops back down, it is a no bones day. A Bones Day is a day to take risks, and find that motivation to start a new project. Whereas a No-bones day is the day to prioritise self-care: to wear fluffy jumpers, to run a bath by candlelight. A no-bones day doesn’t necessarily mean that bad things will happen, they are just days to take it easy and not try new things. “He will literally surrender himself to dead weight and gravity [on a no-bones day]”, Jonathan told Elrna from Mashable. Passing trend or not, Noodles reminds millions of followers to check in on themselves daily. “The internet decided that this pug was an oracle,” Jonathan says as he recalls how an idea from his friends from college turned into his pug’s way of life.
This isn’t the first time an animal has aided in predictions for the day ahead or an upcoming event; Paul the octopus predicted numerous match results during the 2010 World Cup. But with Noodles, people are turning to the pug in the name of self-care. Self-care can sometimes be swept under the rug when life doesn’t allow for a break. Just like how sometimes people require a push to get help for how they are feeling, this pooch gives viewers a push towards self-care. Similarly, motivation might not come naturally, especially after a burnout period. Those who struggle with taking time to relax or struggle with finding motivation throughout the day are finding that Noodles dictating that for them has made it easier.
Self-care is all about building a healthy relationship with yourself. If you have an unhealthy relationship with yourself, your relationships with others can quickly become unhealthy as well. Yet it can easily be forgotten when you feel too busy to take a break. Self-care is known to help reduce the symptoms of anxiety, depression and everyday stress. It can take many forms either listening to your body when it is too worn down to complete tasks or choosing to make adjustments to let in more happiness. It can simply be giving yourself 10 extra minutes in bed before the day ahead.
Here are some easy beginner friendly examples of some self-care ideas to implement into your no-bones day:
The content that Jonathan and Noodles create is incredibly wholesome, it puts little pressure on the day ahead if you choose to subscribe to a daily dose of Noodles. I know I’ve opened up Instagram before the day has begun and found something that can put a damper on the day, I’m sure many of you have as well, so if opening TikTok can help frame whether the day ahead is one to jump into something new or a day for extra self-love, I’ll gladly take that instead. Bones or no-bones, what day could go wrong when it starts with an adorable dog!
