What is in My Makeup Bag with Nicola Londers

Just like most beauty junkies my makeup bag is actually a whole vanity and I have a collection that resembles a makeup counter in your favourite department store. Excessive I know! Despite this I have my absolute faves that I reach for the most and products I cannot be without.

My go to look for everyday makeup is basically no makeup makeup. I like my skin to look like it has barely anything on it and to appear natural. I start with a light base and build colour on top so I look natural and healthy. This also requires little skill or tools because a makeup artist I most definitely am not! The easier to use the better.

Lets start with the base –

Firstly, the key to good makeup is preparing the skin first with skincare and primers.

face

A 5-in-1 face cream that evens out your complexion, blurs imperfections and eliminates shine creating a soft focus, filter type finish to the skin. It’s got amazing skincare ingredients in the formula and creates the perfect base for oily skin.  This can also be used as a moisturiser but I prefer it as a primer over my moisturiser.

When it comes to a base, I love a barely-there coverage. I am quite lucky to have fairly good skin so I don’t feel the need to cover it up. This oil free version works amazing with oily skin. It has a dewy finish that isn’t oily so no separation. Being oily I really have to be careful with bases and how they last otherwise by midday my make up slides off my face if I make the wrong choice. This contains oil absorbing powders and fantastic skincare ingredients including squalene, liquorice root extract and an antioxidant complex giving you natural looking skin using makeup with skincare benefits.

Erborian Matte Cream Primer

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser

Being so oily in order for my base to last, I have to set it with powder and also be prepared to need to touch up shine throughout the day. This product is amazing and is definitely a desert island product for me. I load my puff up with powder in the morning to set my makeup pressing it into the skin, then I put the puff in my handbag for touch ups. No need to take the powder with you, as the puff stays fully loaded. It’s just like the most amazing oily skin control trick I have.

Moving on to colour ……….

I like to build a natural looking, sunkissed colour around my hairline, jaw and up my cheek bones with a bronzer first.

This is hands down one of my favourite every day and every season bronzer. Firstly, the packaging is absolutely stunning and the large pan size means this lasts ages and you really get your monies worth form this high-end brand. The fine powder melts to the skin and seamlessly blends for a natural finish. I wear shade Medium and find this shade works in all the seasons from when I am pale in winter to when my skin is tanned in summer as the colour is buildable and still creates the coverage I love.

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder with Puff

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer

Next, I add a flush of colour to my cheeks. The shades I usually go for are corals and pinks to compliment my medium skin tone, so here are some of my faves. I do have a bit of a blusher addiction and seem to collect them. Found it hard to narrow these down.

NARS Liquid Blush – Torrid

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush – Incandescent Electra

bareMinerals Gen Nude Blonzer – Kiss of Copper

Laura Mercier Blush Colour Infusion – Passionfrui

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic – Pillow Talk

eyes

Now let’s talk about the eyes, now I have many eyeshadow palettes but truth be told I rarely wear eyeshadow. Shocking!! I just keep my eyes looking natural here is how I do this:-

First, I set under my eyes with:-

A fine powder that not only brightens under the eyes it also absorbs all the oil from around my eye area so my mascara does not transfer, leaving me looking like a panda. It works every time and is a little beauty secret of mine.

Mascara is a must for me, it makes your eyes stand out and after trying many, many different one’s last year I found my desert island mascara and I absolutely would never change now…

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder

Hourglass Caution Mascara

It gives just the right about of length and volume without looking clumpy. I use two coats and I just find it to be perfection! You know when you just are like yep that is the one. That’s is how I felt with this and I use it every day.

The last eye product I like to use is a brow gel to just comb the brows and set them into more of a precise way. I am not very good at drawing on brows and am blessed with dark full brows naturally so I try to leave them as natural as possible.

My favourite brow gels are:

REFY – Brow Sculpt

Eyeko – Brow Gel

Lips

Then the very last thing is lips, now just like blushers I am a bit of a lipstick junky and have way more than I care to admit but what I love more than anything for day-to-day wear is actually a tinted balm and I do have an absolute fave that gets way more wear than any of my lipsticks…

Nars Afterglow Lipbalm - Torrid

It moisturises the lips and just gives a natural and sheer hint of colour. I always have one in my handbag.

Charlotte Tilbury – Pillow Talk

If we are talking lipsticks, I think you just can’t go wrong with a nude.

The perfect shade for everyone and it now is available in different depths so o can really match it to your skin tone.

Nars Afterglow Lipbalm  – Torrid

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution – Pillow Talk

This kind of really narrows down my makeup bag must haves and I really hope you enjoyed and found some new products to add to your own makeup bag.
